St. John Passion
A Collaboration with Christ Church Cathedral

Christopher Caruso-Lynch, Director
April 1, 2023 | 6:30 pm  Christ Church Cathedral

The Passions of J.S. Bach are among the great masterworks composed at the height of the Baroque period. Combining chorales, arias, recitative, and polyphonic choruses, the St. John Passion tells the Passion story in a manner that explores the full range of Baroque style, symbolism, and expression. We are beyond excited to partner with Christopher Caruso-Lynch and the Choirs of Christ Church Cathedral for a performance several years in the making.

In one of our largest orchestra configurations of the season, this performance includes pairs of traverso flutes, oboes da caccia, and violas d’amore, obligato features for viola da gamba and lute, as well as our celebrated team of string players.  Vocal soloists for this performance will be choristers and staff singers from Christ Church Cathedral.

The Cathedral Choir provides music for English-language services at Christ Church Cathedral. The principal musicians of The Cathedral Choir are choristers (children ages 7-18). Choristers sing the top-most vocal part, and their work is supported by staff singers, organists, and their director. The Cathedral Choir explores the very best of the Anglican-musical tradition. This performance of the St. John Passion is included in all 3 IBO season subcription packages. Individual tickets are available through Christ Church Cathedral at the ticketing link below.
