Mostly Bach! | IBO’s 29th Season
Join the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra for a vibrant 29th season
celebrating the genius of Johann Sebastian Bach — and the extraordinary legacy he inspired.
🎶 Season Opener: The Bach Heritage
The season kicks off with a rich tapestry of works by Bach’s gifted sons — from Wilhelm Friedemann to Johann Christian, led by IBO’s Artistic Director, Barthold Kuijken. The highlight of the program, J.C. Bach’s dazzling Flute Concerto in D, with Maestro Kuijken himself as soloist.
🎶 Incomprehensible Light: Bach Cantatas & the Prophet Simeon
A soul-stirring collaboration with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, led by concertmaster Adriane Post and music director Brad Hughley. Experience Bach at his most profound in two moving cantatas (Ich habe genug, BWV 82, featuring Jesse Blumberg, and Mit Fried und Freud, BWV 125), framed by the electrifying Concerto in C minor for Violin and Oboe, with soloists Adriane Post and Priscilla Herreid.
🎶 Towards Telemann
Barthold Kuijken returns to Indianapolis for a celebration of the historical importance -- and musical genius! -- of Bach contemporary Georg Philipp Telemann. Stylistic ties to French composers Jean-Baptiste Lully and André Campra, fellow German Reinhard Keiser, and even Italian violin virtuoso and composer Antonio Vivaldi lead us to Telemann, whose Flute Concerto in D features soloist Maestro Kuijken.
🎶 O Radiant Dawn: Festive Music for Eastertide
An exuberant collaboration with Second Presbyterian Church, led by music director Dr. Michelle L. Louer. Revel in J.S. Bach’s jubilant Easter Oratorio and Zelenka’s rarely-heard Missa Paschalis in D — complete with four glorious Baroque valveless trumpets. A brass lover’s dream!
🎶 Blakeman Gerber Indianapolis International Baroque Competition
Our thrilling season finale introduces five exceptional young Baroque artists from around the world. Witness these rising stars compete live for the prestigious $15,000 Devona and Amos Gerber Award. Presented in partnership with Indianapolis Early Music, this quadrennial event promises passion, precision, and unforgettable artistry.
