Brilliant fanfares of trumpets and drums herald the opening of J.S. Bach’s dramatic Easter Oratorio. With themes of spring, renewal, and rebirth, the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra under the leadership of Adriene Post with Second Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir under the direction of Dr. Michelle Louer, present festive music of Eastertide. Bach’s oratorio leads us from darkness and sorrow to light and hope, with a professional quartet of outstanding soloists narrating the resurrection story.
Jan Dismas Zelenka, Bach’s Bohemian counterpart, expands both the orchestra (to FOUR baroque trumpets) and the joyful music in his rarely heard Missa Paschalis. With its sometimes surprising harmonic turns and quirky rhythmic figures, Zelenka’s Mass is sure to delight!
